Court date and deadline calculator

This free case date calculator counts calendar days or business days forward or backward from a trigger date, such as the date of service, and can move a result that falls on a weekend to the next business day. It is generic date arithmetic, not a rules-based calculation for any court.

Court date and deadline calculator

e.g. date of service or filing
Estimated deadlineFriday, December 4, 202630 calendar days after Wednesday, November 4, 2026, trigger day excluded. 30 calendar days in total.

Generic date arithmetic only. It does not apply court holidays, local rules, service-method extensions or any jurisdiction's rules of procedure, and it is not legal advice. Always verify deadlines against the applicable rules.

Important limitations

Court deadlines are governed by the rules of procedure, local rules, court orders and statutes that apply to your case. Those rules may exclude the trigger day, treat short periods differently, add days for certain service methods and exclude legal holidays. This calculator does none of that automatically. Use it as a quick estimate, then confirm every deadline against the applicable rules. It is not legal advice.

How to use the calculator

  1. Enter the trigger date, such as the date a document was served or filed.
  2. Enter the number of days in the period.
  3. Choose calendar days or business days (Monday to Friday).
  4. Choose whether the deadline is after or before the trigger date.
  5. Decide whether a weekend result should move to the next business day.

Calendar days vs business days

Calendar days count every day, including weekends. Business days skip Saturdays and Sundays. Many rules count calendar days but extend a deadline that falls on a weekend or holiday to the next court day. Holidays are not included in this calculator.

Keep deadlines with the matter

Calculating a date is only the first step; the deadline must be recorded on the right matter and seen by everyone responsible. EvidenceDesk legal calendaring links deadlines to matters and sends reminders.
